Fracking

Fracking - via the Free Thought Project

Fracking, short for hydraulic fracturing, is a highly controversial method of obtaining hydrocarbons from rock fissures.

It involves the injection at high-pressure of 'fracking fluid', primarily water mixed with sand and often other toxic chemicals, deep into wellbores to create cracks in the bedrock through which natural gas, petroleum, and brine will flow more freely.
