Mountain Pygmy Possum

Mountain Pygmy Possum

The Mountain Pygmy Possum is Australia's only hibernating marsupial. It lives in Victoria's highlands and spends 6 months of the year hibernating and the rest frolicking in the high plains.

On the Brink of Extinction

Current estimates of its population gives us less than 2000 of these creatures left. Zoos Victoria manages a captive breeding program at Healesville Sanctuary and releases these creatures into alpine areas every year.
