Riding for the Great Forest

Great Forest Rider
Riding for the Great Forest is an open ended grass roots cycling campaign, highlighting the majesty of the central highlands of Victoria. Its mission is to raise the profile of the proposed Great Forest National Park by getting out and about it on a bicycle. This campaign was started by Aidan Kempster but anyone who wants to join the fun and go on their own ride, or accompany Aidan on one of his, is more than welcome to. The more people singing praises for the Great Forest the better.

The Great Forest National Park encompasses the public land between Kinglake, Eildon and Baw Baw. This area covers well known destinations like the Yarra Ranges, Toolangi, Cathedral Ranges, Kurth Kiln, Mt Disappointment and Bunyip. It also includes the lesser known regions such as Woods Point, Matlock, Aberfeldy, The Black Range, The Rubicon and Labertouche. The sovereignty of Australia's first people has never been ceded and it is important to make clear that the area proposed for protection contains land belonging to the Taungurong, Wurundjeri and Boonwurrung people.

To get you started on your own bike adventure Aidan has written an introduction into planning your first bike ride, and has a selection of routes along with tales from previous rides available on the Riding for the Great Forest website.
